Mercy Community Services (“MCS”) is a long-established community services organisation originally run by the Sisters of Mercy, based in SEQ. Today, MCS continues to fulfil its collective mission to support and inspire people in need to live healthy connected lives within inclusive communities. Over 1,000 employees support people daily through the delivery of different programs and services that cater for all ages, circumstances and seasons of life, in key areas of Aged Care, NDIS, Families and Young People.

The CEO seeks an experienced, dynamic Governance and Risk Executive to develop and implement appropriate frameworks for the sustainable and effective management of the following areas; Clinical Governance, Risk Management, Quality Improvement, WH&S and Compliance and Accreditation.

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the Quality team of 6. After carefully assessing the business, you will be responsible for designing a structure, whether it is centralised or devolved into services streams, that delivers a framework to support the long-term strategic growth plans of MCS. To complete the required level of assessment, you must be a qualified Health professional who understands clinical governance risks.

The key challenges will be to:

  • Comprehend the implications of Clinical Governance, Risk Management, Quality Improvement, WH&S and Compliance and Accreditation across all operations before developing a suitable structure that changes the service delivery model and systems to cope with the planned strategic growth;
  • Establish a governance and risk function that is respected, trusted and supported across the business and adds value to operations whilst highlighting potential governance and risk issues requiring immediate action;
  • Demonstrate to the Board and your fellow Executives, your intimate knowledge of the clinical risks involved in a broad-based care services business and the governance framework required to reduce the risk and ensure appropriate governance management; and
  • Understand the unique intricacies of MCS, in particular it’s mission and ethos, to then embed them in your areas of responsibility effectively.

A resilient senior Governance and Risk Executive, who has gained significant experience in dealing with a diverse range of strategic and tactical priorities will thrive here. As well as a strong clinical background, your career must demonstrate sound commercial acumen to partner and work effectively with and inspire confidence and respect from all stakeholders. Your qualifications and thorough practical experience and understanding of clinical governance, performance improvement and quality system design and management are underpinned by your engaging and empathetic leadership style.

You must be flexible, agile and able to problem solve effectively in order to support the organisation to develop the requisite maturity of practice.  Your level of specialist clinical knowledge and/or professional practice experience will demonstrate your capability to correctly manage clinical risk and governance issues.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to make a true difference in a sector of critical importance to society. The personal development rewards on offer as the Director, Governance and Risk for MCS surpass the already substantial financial rewards for the position.

My 25 year professional talent identification career has seen me undertake Board, C-Suite and Executive assignments for ASX listed and privately-owned corporations, government departments and owned corporations, and small to medium sized enterprises. As a Chartered Accountant working for several of the Big four CA firms I was provided training and experience over 8 years that instilled in me a professional services mindset and work ethic. The technical knowledge and “hands on” practical experience gained across various industries, and dealings with Boards and Executives was an excellent grounding. As Chair of the Edmund Rice Foundation Australia, my understanding of what is required to be an effective Chair and Board member was enhanced. I have received industry awards recognising my contribution to the industry including The Best Recruiter in Australia and the Best Recruiter in Queensland.
